Curriculum

At Stoneygate Nursery School, every child matters.

We hold a shared vision that by the time your child leaves our nursery, no matter the length of time spent with us, they will be:

Here in our Curriculum area, you will hopefully find the answers to any questions that you may have around your child's learning and development and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

As a staff, we are constantly reviewing and adjusting our curriculum offer in line with the children's interests, new resources we may come across and further developed practise or training opportunities that we may have undertaken. Currently, we are working very hard to update our Curriculum Overview, in order to ensure that we are providing the most unique learning opportunities that we can, that are well-matched, reflective and personal to both our children, and our community, here at Stoneygate Nursery School. We aim to have this updated and ready for September 2024, so please keep a look out for this on our website!

If you have any questions about the skills that your child will be learning whilst in nursery, or would simply like some ideas on how to help your child continue with their learning outside of nursery, then please do not hesitate to contact the Class Teacher or your child’s Key Worker.

Our Curriculum Aims:

Children gain a huge amount from nursery education and we believe that our curriculum ensures that your child will not only have the very best possible start to their education, but that they will leave our setting with the confidence, knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to embark on the next phase of their education at primary school.

Mapped out with Communication and Language at the heart, our curriculum enables children to learn and develop skills through the seven areas of learning, as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We strive to ensure our curriculum:

  • provides all pupils with equal access to an ambitious, creative, broad and balanced offer, that ensures skills are developed sequentially.
  • is adaptive; we have the ability to be flexible in the topics and themes we teach in order to meet the needs, interests, experiences and fascinations of our children.
  • is vocabulary rich; communication and language is at the heart of all that our children learn, explore and experience.
  • provides our pupils with a wealth of hands-on, practical experiences to engage their senses, develop their cultural capital and provide them with fun and exciting opportunities that we hope they will remember.
  • celebrates individuality and uniqueness and promotes a sense of belonging; both in our local community and within the wider world.
  • is reflective; opportunities to revisit previous learning and concepts are carefully thought out and delivered to ensure pupils gain a deep understanding of what it is they are being taught and have the opportunity to make connections between their learning.
